Exercise Buddies is a project in receipt of grant funding from the Integrated Care Fund, provided from Welsh Assembly Government.
It is a joint funded project between Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
The project aims to increase the amount of physical activity that people with a learning disability and their parents/carers engage in.
Many people with disabilities do not engage in physical activities.
This project aims to support them to engage in a range of activities that will improve their physical and mental health.
It will also support parents and carers to engage in more activities so will again improve their physical and mental health.
The project will ensure that the new activities are built into sustainable projects within peoples own communities.
Our objective is to initiate and support the development of physical activity available to the target group in the county and to scope out the opportunities or development of both indoor and outdoor physical activity groups across the region.
By the end of the project, we will have trained enough people to enable social running/walking groups to be self-sustaining.
A network of local volunteers will be developed to support people to access ‘ordinary’ exercise opportunities within peoples own communities and these opportunities will have received training and support to enhance their ability to ensure that they can support people with a variety of needs in the future.
