Active Disability (Exercise Buddies)

Active Disability (Exercise Buddies)

What is it?

Active Disability (Exercise Buddies) is a project partly funded by the Health and Social Care Regional Integration Fund. The project aims to increase the amount of physical activity that people with a learning disability and their parents/carers and families engage in.

Who is it for?

The scheme is aimed at adults and children with learning disabilities.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have a recognised disability
  • Receive DLA or PIP (with proof, e.g. award letter)
  • Require support from a carer/family member to access leisure services

What’s included?

We organise a wide range of activities for our service users including:

  • Active Disability Group Sessions including Zumba, multi sports etc
  • Fitness Suites and gym access (with induction)
  • Easyline Gym (Milford Haven Leisure Centre)
  • Swimming (public & AD sessions at all pools)
  • Indoor Bowling (Milford Haven Leisure Centre)
  • Fitness classes (public and AD)
  • Other benefits apply

How much does it cost?

£14.60/month - Passport to Leisure Membership (Direct Debit)

£1.80 per session: Pay-as-you-go flexibility

Participation fees are set in accordance with Pembrokeshire Leisure charges. However, the majority of our service users qualify for the Passport to Leisure membership. For more details, please visit Passport to Leisure on the Pembrokeshire Leisure website. Additionally, one carer or family member accompanying a service user may attend free of charge.

How to Apply

Applying for the Active Disability Eligibility Subscription for the Passport to Leisure Membership–is simple:

  1. Visit your local Leisure Centre with proof of eligibility (e.g. DLA or PIP award letter).
  2. Ask a member of our team to approve and set up your passport to leisure membership with active disability eligibility.

If the service user cannot apply in person:

  • A carer or personal assistant may apply on their behalf.
  • If the service user attends as part of a group setting (e.g. care home), the care home or carer/personal assistant can provide the documentation for them.
  • Copies or photos of award letters are accepted.
