New 3G Pitch in Tenby Set to Boost Year-Round Training for Grassroots Sport

Pembrokeshire’s brand-new, state-of-the-art 3G pitch in Tenby is OPEN! providing a much-needed facility for local clubs and teams to train and play all year round. The new pitch, located at Greenhill School and run by Tenby Leisure Centre, is now open for bookings and marks a significant step forward in supporting grassroot sports in the County.  This wonderful £700,000 project was made possible by funding from the Cymru football foundation and Sport Wales, through Welsh Government Investment.

The installation of the 3G pitch ensures that teams can continue to train whatever the weather, removing the disruptions caused by poor ground conditions during the winter months. The all-weather surface is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of sports, including football and rugby, and will offer a reliable space for teams of all ages to develop their skills and enjoy the game.

Supporting Grassroots Sport

Having high-quality facilities such as this in Pembrokeshire is vital for the growth and sustainability of grassroots clubs. By providing a modern, safe, and accessible training space, the 3G pitch will help local clubs to attract and retain players, develop young talent, and enhance the sporting experience for the community. The addition of this facility aligns with Pembrokeshire Leisure’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and supporting local sports development.

“We’re thrilled to be opening this brand-new 3G pitch in Tenby,” said Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet member for Resident Services. “This facility will make a real difference to clubs and teams in the area, ensuring they have access to high-quality training spaces throughout the year. Grassroots sport is the foundation of community engagement in sport, and we’re proud to be investing in its future.”

“My team and I are absolutely delighted to finally share this fantastic facility. We, along with many groups, individuals and locals have waited a considerably long time for this so we really cannot wait to welcome everyone.” - Lisa Starkey Manager, Tenby Leisure Centre
